The Central Bank of Egypt(CBE) will offer EGP 19 billion in fixed- and variable-yield treasury bonds on Sunday and Monday.
According to the Central Bank's website, the offerings are as follows: EGP 1.5 billion in variable-yield treasury bonds, with a five-year term and quarterly interest payments.
Meanwhile, fixed-yield treasury bonds will be offered tomorrow, Sunday, worth EGP 7 billion, with a two-year term and a semi-annual interest payment period. Another EGP 10 billion offering will be offered for a three-year term with an annual interest payment period, and a third EGP 500 million offering for a five-year term with a semi-annual interest payment period will be offered next Monday.
Treasury Bonds
Treasury bonds are legally negotiable instruments issued by companies or governments. They serve as a loan with a specified term, whether long, short, or medium, ranging from two to 20 years.
The Ministry of Finance authorizes the Central Bank, throughout the fiscal year, to manage its own offerings of Egyptian pound treasury bills and bonds, with the proceeds to be financed and spent on the state's general budget for the current fiscal year.
Interest Rates
It is worth noting that the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Egypt decided, at its meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025, to maintain the overnight deposit and lending rates, and the Central Bank's main operation rate, at 24.00%, 25.00%, and 24.50%, respectively. It also decided to maintain the credit and discount rates at 24.50%.
