Engineer Karim Badawi, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, delivered a keynote address at the opening of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2025), attended by global energy leaders. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and CEO of ADNOC Group, alongside U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, who also gave a keynote speech.

During the ministerial opening session titled “Energy Realities: Securing a Safe Future in a Challenging World,” Badawi joined UAE Minister of Energy Suhail Al Mazrouei and Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi.

Egypt’s Energy Vision

Badawi emphasized Egypt’s strategic role as a regional energy hub, leveraging its robust infrastructure and partnerships to supply energy across the region.

He highlighted ongoing cooperation with Cyprus to export Cypriot gas globally via Egypt, and with UAE’s Arkios, which chose Egypt as its regional base.

Sector Priorities

Accelerating oil and gas exploration and production

Balancing traditional energy sources with renewables to support value-added industries

Strengthening petrochemical and refining sectors to produce high-value petroleum derivatives

Mining and Energy Security

Badawi underscored mining as a key pillar in energy security, especially for sourcing critical minerals for renewable energy technologies.

Egypt aims not only to extract raw materials but also to develop downstream industries in partnership with global players to maximize economic value.

His remarks reinforced Egypt’s commitment to regional cooperation, sustainable energy development, and strategic investment in infrastructure and innovation.
