During his visit to Turkey, Engineer Hassan El-Khatib, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, held a series of high-level meetings in Istanbul aimed at strengthening bilateral economic cooperation. His visit coincided with the 41st session of the COMCEC Ministers of Trade meeting, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
🔹 Egypt–Turkey Industrial Cooperation
El-Khatib met with executives from leading Turkish textile and apparel companies in a session organized by the Egyptian-Turkish Business Council.
Turkish companies expressed interest in expanding investments in Egypt’s textile sector, aiming to increase production capacity and create thousands of jobs.
The minister praised their confidence in Egypt’s economy and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting export-oriented projects and technology transfer.
🔹 Strategic Trade Talks with Turkey
In a meeting with Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, both sides agreed to intensify efforts to raise bilateral trade from $9 billion in 2024 to $15 billion in the coming years.
Trade between the two countries reached $4 billion in the first half of 2025, including $2 billion in Egyptian exports.
El-Khatib emphasized the need to ease restrictions on Egyptian exports and proposed hosting the second round of the high-level trade consultation mechanism in Cairo during the upcoming D8 ministerial meeting in December.
He also welcomed the $4 billion in Turkish investments in Egypt and highlighted the formation of a special unit by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to address Turkish investor concerns.
🔹 Business Environment Reforms
Egypt aims to reduce customs clearance time to just two days by the end of 2025.
The country is working toward ranking among the top 20 globally in trade competitiveness by 2030.
🔹 Egypt–Qatar Investment Dialogue
El-Khatib also met with Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Trade and Industry, to discuss proposals for enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Egypt is preparing to host the Egypt-Qatar Business Forum in December, with participation from major Qatari firms.
The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to facilitating Qatari investments, especially in high-value production sectors, to promote sustainable development and economic integration.
These meetings reflect Egypt’s proactive approach to fostering strategic partnerships and attracting foreign investment across key sectors.
